Discover The Ephemeral World, an exhibition by artist Glynn Kelly, where classical oil painting techniques merge with buddhist iconography and where landscapes shape shift into still lives.

Glynn Kelly’s body of work reflects a nuanced exploration of impermanence, capturing the ephemeral quality of the moments that inspired their creation.

“As an artist you are intensely aware of this transitory nature of all things.

Even in the act of painting things change, objects decay, light fades.

Take a moment to look outside the window and you can see this process for

yourself.”

The initial inspiration for the title of this exhibition came from the world of Japanese Wood block Prints. The style that the Japanese printmakers worked in is known as Ukio-e, a Buddhist term that translates as “This floating world” referencing the transitory nature of life, empty of inherent existence.

About Glynn Kelly

Glynn Kellys initial training was at UNSW  as part of his Architecture course in watercolours. This led to a lifetime of sketching and drawing outdoors.

When Glynn retired in 2016, he studied at the Brisbane Atelier in classical oil painting techniques. His two passions are Plein Air and Still Life. He loves to capture the fleeting moment as light rakes across the landscape. Still Life is much more controlled and allows the artist to develop at theme over time.

You can see more of Glynns work online work on Instagram @Glynn1175.

Entry to the exhibition is free and everybody is welcome!

Paintings are for sale and all proceeds are being kindly offered to Chenrezig Institute by the artist.
