  • Join Chenrezig Institute, Australia’s first Tibetan Buddhist centre, as our Centre Director and help guide the organisation’s vision, operations, and community life in alignment with the FPMT mission.

    This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the Centre’s day-to-day operations, ensuring financial and organisational stability, and fostering a harmonious, values-driven community.

    About the Role

    The Centre Director provides strategic and operational leadership across all “worldly affairs” of the Centre, working under the guidance of the Board and in close collaboration with the Resident Teacher and Spiritual Program Coordinator. The role ensures the Centre continues to thrive as a place of Dharma practice, learning, service, and community.

    What You’ll Do

    In this role, you will:

    • Lead the overall operations of the Centre, ensuring alignment with FPMT vision and values

    • Oversee financial management, budgeting, and long-term sustainability

    • Guide and support staff, volunteers, and community members

    • Ensure good governance, compliance, and risk management

    • Strengthen relationships within the Centre and with the wider FPMT network

    • Support community harmony and ethical practice

    • Contribute to outreach, communication, and public engagement

    Key Responsibilities

    • Leadership & Community: Provide compassionate leadership and foster a harmonious, inclusive and collaborative community environment, supporting staff, volunteers, and students in shared growth and wellbeing.

    • Financial Management: Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and resource management to ensure transparency, accountability, and long-term financial sustainability of the Centre.

    • Governance & Compliance: Ensure compliance with legal requirements and FPMT policies, maintain proper governance processes, manage risk, and keep the Board informed of key developments.

    • FPMT & External Relations: Maintain strong engagement with the wider FPMT network, including communication with International Office, sharing updates, and representing the Centre in organisational settings.

    • Centre Development & Outreach: Support the Centre’s visibility and connection with the wider community through outreach, engagement, and participation in public and community-focused activities.

    Skills & Experience

    We are looking for someone with strong operational leadership and the ability to work effectively in a values-driven, community-based environment.

    • Proven experience in senior leadership or organisational management

    • Strong financial management and budgeting skills

    • Experience working with teams, staff, or volunteers

    • Understanding of governance, compliance, and risk management

    • Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)

    • Ability to work collaboratively and build trust across groups

    • Strategic thinking and confident decision-making

    • Comfortable using basic digital tools (email, documents, spreadsheets)

  • Join us as volunteers at Chenrezig Institute, Australia's first Tibetan Buddhist centre!

    We're seeking a warm, organised couple, or two individuals to coordinate our volunteer community for 3-6 months.

    What You'll Do:

    • Welcome and support volunteers

    • Manage schedules and coordinate activities

    • Help create a harmonious community environment

    • Foster a positive and collaborative atmosphere

    About the Role

    As Volunteer Coordinators, you will work together to support and manage our on-site volunteer program. Key responsibilities include:

    • Coordinating volunteer schedules and daily tasks

    • Creating and managing volunteer rosters

    • Welcoming and orienting new volunteers

    • Managing volunteer expectations and supporting harmonious community living

    • Acting as a main point of contact between volunteers and staff

    • Ordering and organising supplies for volunteers

    • Maintaining records and basic administration related to the volunteer program

    Skills & Experience

    This role is ideal for applicants looking to build or strengthen professional skills. Desired skills include:

    • Clear and confident communication skills

    • Strong organisational and time-management abilities

    • Basic to intermediate IT skills, including:

      • Google Sheets

      • Google Docs

      • Gmail

    • Ability to manage expectations with care, clarity, and fairness

    • Comfortable working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds

    Training and support will be provided.

    Community Environment

    Chenrezig Institute is a Buddhist centre, and all residents are expected to live in accordance with Buddhist ethical guidelines. This includes adherence to the five Buddhist precepts:

    • No killing

    • No stealing

    • No lying

    • No sexual misconduct

    • No taking of intoxicants (including drugs and alcohol)

    The Institute is located in a remote rural setting, best suited to applicants who are comfortable with limited access to town services and who value quiet, mindful living.
