At His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday celebration at Chenrezig Institute, Geshe Tsultrim shared his heartfelt wish to undertake a pilgrimage to India and to have an audience with His Holiness. Geshe-la invited all friends and students to join him on this very special occasion.
Many of you have expressed your interest, and we are now delighted to extend this formal invitation for you to participate in an exceptional and deeply auspicious pilgrimage to India, guided personally by our Resident Teacher, Geshe Phuntsok Tsultrim.
This is not simply a tour, but a rare spiritual journey of devotion, practice, and transformation-crafted with great care and intention.
Walking the sacred lands where the Buddha taught and where the great Tibetan masters continue to preserve the Dharma, participants will be supported through teachings, retreat, pilgrimage practices, and cultural immersion, all held within an upscale, thoughtfully curated experience.
This pilgrimage has been designed for those who wish to experience India’s most sacred Buddhist sites in comfort, depth, and authenticity, while receiving direct guidance from a highly respected Geshe.

Pilgrimage Journey
Delhi → Dharamsala | 5 Days
Participants will gather in Delhi on 12 October before traveling to the Himalayan sanctuary of Dharamsala, home of the Tibetan spiritual leadership.
Highlights include:
● A private audience and teaching with His Holiness the Dalai Lama
● A two-day guided retreat led by Geshe-la, allowing deep inner reflection and practice
Visits to:
● Norbulingka Institute, preserving the finest Tibetan arts and craftsmanship
● Gyuto Tantric Monastery, renowned for its ritual mastery
● Dromaling Nunnery, supporting the flourishing of women in the Dharma
These days are designed to cultivate stillness, devotion, and connection in an environment of profound spiritual presence.
Dharamsala → Bodhgaya | 5 Days
Returning via Delhi, the pilgrimage continues to Bodhgaya, the most sacred site in the Buddhist world — where the Buddha attained enlightenment.
Under Geshe-la’s guidance, we will engage in pilgrimage practices at:
● Mahabodhi Temple
● Nalanda Monastery, a legendary ancient Buddhist monastic and scholastic institution
● Vulture’s Peak, where the Buddha taught the Prajñāpāramitā
● Mahakala Cave, a powerful site for protection and deep contemplation
Practicing in these places, supported by teachings and shared intention, offers an opportunity for extraordinary merit and profound insight.
Bodhgaya → Bangalore → Mysore Region | 5 Days
The journey concludes in South India, where we explore the living heart of Tibetan monastic education and Indian cultural heritage.
Visits include:
● Sera Je Monastery, one of the great centers of Buddhist philosophical studies
● Tashi Lhunpo Monastery
● Gyumed Tantric College
● Mysore Palace, an architectural jewel of India
Travel is by internal flight and private chartered coach, ensuring a smooth and comfortable conclusion to the pilgrimage.

Overview
What is the total cost of the pilgrimage?
Final pricing will be confirmed closer to departure.
As a guide, estimated costs include:
● Internal flights within India: approximately AUD $1,000
● Accommodation: approximately AUD $150 per night per room for 15 nights
These estimates are provided as a guide only and may vary depending on availability and seasonal pricing.
Can I share a hotel room?
Yes. Twin or shared accommodation is available with prior arrangement at the time of registration. Please indicate your preference when reserving your place.
Can I travel elsewhere before or after the pilgrimage?
Yes. Participants are welcome to make their own independent travel arrangements before or after the pilgrimage dates, provided they meet the group in Delhi on 12 October 2026 and depart after 26 October 2026.
Securing Your Place
To confirm your participation, we invite you to secure your place with a donation of $500 to Chenrezig Institute.
This donation reserves your place on the pilgrimage and will be deducted from your final pilgrimage cost, which is currently estimated at approximately $3,500 per participant.
All donations made to Chenrezig Institute directly support the ongoing preservation, teaching, and practice of the Buddhadharma in Australia.
Important Notes
● Places are strictly limited to 65 community members preserve the quality, intimacy, and spiritual integrity of the pilgrimage.
● Any donation made to reserve your place will be deducted from your final pilgrimage balance.
● Should you find the donation amount difficult at this time, we warmly encourage you to contact tour Pilgrimage Coordinator at pilgrimage@chenrezig.com.au to discuss flexible payment arrangements.

● Estimated total pilgrimage cost: approximately $3,500
● This includes internal flights, accommodation, ground transport, and program facilitation.
● International flights, visas, and travel insurance are not included.

You will meet the pilgrimage group at Delhi Airport on 12 October (exact location and time TBC). On this day, the group will fly from Delhi to Dharamsala.
We recommend arriving in Delhi at least one day earlier (11 October) to allow time to rest and prepare.
Accommodation in Delhi prior to 12 October will be at your own expense. We will share recommended options near the airport shortly.

The pilgrimage concludes in Mysore on 26 October.
We will arrange group buses from Mysore to Bengaluru on 26 October (an approximate 2–3 hour trip) at no additional cost. This will support those flying onward from Bengaluru.
Please book flights departing Bengaluru for late afternoon or evening on 26 October, or consider staying overnight in Bengaluru and flying out on 27 October.

Yes. Upon registration please indicate whether you prefer a private room or a shared room and we will do our best to accomodate.
Accommodation costs are approximately $150 per room per night (around $75 per person per night if sharing).
