Gold Leaf Workshop with Garrey Foulkes

  • Chenrezig Institute 33 Johnsons Road Eudlo, QLD, 4554 Australia (map)

About Event:

Come and learn the art of gilding in gold leaf at the Chenrezig Institute Art Studio with an experienced gilder.

In this workshop we will guide students through the process of applying gold leaf to a small Buddha statue called a tsa tsa.

The creation of, as well as the offering of paint/ gold to sacred objects such as tsa tsas, statues, and stupas, is a practice that is said to result in great merit and positive energy for the practitioner as well as the recipient. Tsatsas make wonderful additions to an altar, mantelpiece or any other clean, respectful location.

About Teacher:

Garrey Foulkes first learned  the basic techniques for  applying soft gold and gold-leafing about 50 years ago. After a lot of trial and error he finally had the opportunity to take lessons from a Taiwanese expert called Chun Roo who was invited to gold-leaf a very large statue at the Great Stupa in Bendigo. She knew all the tricks, which Garrey will kindly shared with course participants.

Garrey Foulkes is a founding member of the Chenrezig Institute. Having been involved since it’s inception, Garrey has spent a large amount of that time developing the creative aspects of CI and its holy objects, overseeing the building of the Garden of Enlightenment and the Art Studio. Although he is now retired, Garrey still acts on the board of the advisors for the Great Stupa in Bendigo, paints holy objects, as well as offering occasional workshops.
