Green Tara Retreat with Ven. Tony Beaumont

  • Gompa - Chenrezig Institute 33 Johnsons Road Eudlo, QLD, 4554 Australia (map)

About Event:

This Green Tara Retreat, guided by Ven. Tony Beaumont, offers a meaningful opportunity to explore and connect with one of the most beloved practices in Tibetan Buddhism. Open to all, the retreat is suitable for both those new to the path and experienced practitioners wishing to deepen their understanding.

Tara, known in Tibetan as Drolma or “She Who Saves,” is a bodhisattva of compassion who manifests in female form. Green Tara, in particular, embodies compassion in action—ever ready to respond swiftly to the needs of sentient beings.

According to tradition, Tara arose from the tears of compassion of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. From these tears, a lotus blossomed, and from that lotus, Tara appeared—expressing the awakened response of wisdom and compassion to suffering.

Green Tara is especially known as a powerful protector, helping to remove obstacles, fears, anxieties, and inner obscurations. Engaging in this practice can support the cultivation of courage, clarity, and inner strength, while nurturing a deep sense of compassion and connection.

On the advice of Geshe Tsultrim, this retreat will be dedicated to the swift recognition of Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s unmistaken reincarnation, and to the success of the new Gompa project for the benefit of all sentient beings.

Throughout the retreat, Ven. Tony will offer teachings, guided meditations, discussion, and time for quiet reflection, supporting participants to develop both understanding and personal experience of the practice.

No prior initiation or lung is required to attend. An introduction to the Buddhist path will also be included, making this retreat accessible and meaningful for everyone.

About our Retreat Leader:

Ven. Tony first made contact with the Buddha-dharma in Nepal and India in 1976. Following this, he trained and worked for four years as a psychiatric nurse, and then in the 1980s was based at Chenrezig Institute during which time he served at different times as the cook, office worker, and gardener.

Following ordination as a monk in 1991, he lived for seventeen years at two different FPMT monasteries, at Nalanda Monastery in France and at Thubten Shedrup Ling monastery in Bendigo, where he served as director. He has led retreats and courses at various FPMT centres throughout the world, as well as teaching in prisons and schools.
