Interwoven Visions: A Photographic Exhibition
Celebrating the Spirit of Chenrezig Institute through the Lens of Małgorzata Ola Dobrowolska

Friday 16th to Sunday the 18th of January @ 10:00am - 3:00pm daily

Step deeper into the heart of Chenrezig Institute: The Origin of Tibetan Buddhism in Australia with Interwoven Visions, a photographic exhibition featuring a specially selected collection of images taken around the serene grounds of Chenrezig Institute. Captured by former resident volunteer and filmmaker Małgorzata Ola Dobrowolska, these evocative photographs reflect daily life, intimate moments and the living landscape of this unique spiritual community.

Each image invites reflection on the beauty, stillness and interconnectedness that define the Institute — from quiet corners of meditation and study to the expansive natural surrounds that have inspired practitioners for decades. Through Małgorzata’s eye, we experience not only the physical place but also the warmth of the people and the timeless quality of compassionate practice that is central to the Institute’s life.

This exhibition runs in conjunction with the premiere screening of Chenrezig: The Origin of Tibetan Buddhism in Australia — an 80-minute documentary exploring the founding and evolution of the Institute, the first Tibetan Buddhist centre established in the West by Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

Film Director

Małgorzata Ola Dobrowolska is an independent documentary filmmaker whose work is rooted in her spiritual journey. Her award-winning film Bhikkhunī – Buddhism, Sri Lanka, Revolution (https://bhikkhuni-film.com) explores the revival of women’s ordination in Theravāda Buddhism.

In June 2019, she left Poland to travel and make films, arriving soon after at Chenrezig Institute in Queensland, Australia. What was meant to be a stay of a few months became four transformative years. Early in her stay, she felt called to create a documentary about the center’s origin and worked on it throughout her time there.

During this time, she was closely involved in daily life at the institute and, as Multimedia Coordinator, helped establish an in-house multimedia team, developing the online platform to livestream teachings and events far beyond Australia.
