Shakyamuni Buddha- Part 1 Drawing Workshop

About Event:

This weekend workshop will be part 1 of 2 workshops to create the image of the Shakyamuni Buddha. In this first workshop Students will learn the traditional approach to drawing Shakyamuni Buddha with the use of a grid. The grid ensures the proportions of the deity remain the same, regardless of the background of the artist.

Part 2 (at a later date) will be painting the Shakyamuni Buddha Image.

The workshop will also include opportunity for gentle guided meditation to give participants opportunity to enter into a quiet refreshing space within the inspiring Chenrezig Institute art studio. Venerable Tony Beaumont will also be joining the class briefly to give more context on Shakyamuni Buddha

When:

Part 1: 11 April Saturday 10 am-3:30 pm and 12 April Sunday 10 am-3:30 pm
Part 2: 2nd May Saturday 10 am- 3:30 pm and 3rd May Sunday 10 am- 3:30 pm

Bring:  Part 1- Materials provided, though Participants are welcome to bring several pencils ranging from soft to medium, eraser, a short and a long ruler, a compass if possible if they prefer to use their own materials

ABOUT TEACHER

Jane Shamrock has studied Buddhist art with master artist Andy Weber as often as possible. Jane loves drawing and painting in the traditional style. She loves helping others begin the rich meditative journey of traditional art. For several years she has been teaching a regular monthly class on drawing the head of the buddha to give participants a taste of the power of the use of the grid. This weekend workshop is an opportunity to draw and paint the image of the whole buddha and to more deeply experience the impact of creating a holy image in the traditional style.

Price for the workshop:

Two day is $108

Priority given to participants who attend both days

one day is $70
This may be paid by card or in cash at the studio on the day.

Staying for lunch?

Please book at least 24 hours ahead at The Big Love Cafe for a vegetarian meal, served from 12noon.
