About Event:
Join us for a rare and special opportunity to participate in a Torma making workshop guided by visiting Sera Jey Monks from India.
In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, tormas are sacred offerings — sculpted from coloured flour and butter — created as acts of devotion and symbolic generosity to deities, protectors, and enlightened beings.
In this hands-on session, you’ll learn how to craft a Tara Torma, dedicated to Goddess Tara, the swift and compassionate female Buddha who embodies enlightened activity and offers protection from fear and obstacles.
This is a wonderful chance to connect with Tibetan art, ritual, and wisdom in a creative, meditative way under the guidance of authentic lineage holders.
All materials provided.
About the Visiting Sera Jey Geshes
We are honoured to welcome the Sera Jey Geshes to Chenrezig Institute as part of their three-month Australian tour of FPMT centres. During their visit, these highly trained monastics are offering blessings, rituals, teachings, spiritual art workshops, and traditional torma-making demonstrations — sharing the living culture of Tibetan Buddhism with our community.
The Geshes come from Sera Jey Monastery in southern India, one of the great monastic universities of the Gelukpa tradition. Sera Jey continues to uphold its centuries-old lineage and way of life, preserving the authentic study, practice, and rituals established in Tibet over 600 years ago.
Their tour also helps raise awareness and funds for the renovation of Sera Jey Monastery’s kitchen, which provides daily meals to thousands of monks — an essential part of sustaining this vibrant centre of study and practice.
