Dharma Kids

  • Chenrezig Institute 33 Johnsons Road Eudlo, QLD, 4554 Australia (map)

About Event:

Dharma Kids is Chenrezig Institute’s program for children. The main program is for younger primary school children aged 5-10, with Dharma Friends catering for older primary and young secondary students (10-15). The groups will run simultaneously, coming together for group meditation and working separately on age appropriate activities.

Dharma Kids will continue to be offered twice a month on the first and third Sundays of each month from 10:15-12:00. (keep an eye on the event calendar for any changes or breaks eg there will be a break over Xmas /New Year – and for special events). Children’s activities will be held in the open pavilion under the Big Love Cafe.

In the book “Joyful Parents, Successful Children”, Lama Zopa Rinpoche introduces us to seven basic qualities in which to educate children: kindness, rejoicing, patience, forgiveness, apologizing, contentment, and courage. Called the “Seven Foundations for Happiness and Peace,” these seven qualities form the foundation of the Dharma Kids program. Through stories, play, craft and other activities, children are introduced to the seven foundations in an age appropriate and secular manner.

You can download the pdf version of this lovely book here free of charge: https://www.lamayeshe.com/sites/default/files/pdf/JPSC.pdf

While the children work with Venerable Tenzin Ösel and the Dharma Kids facilitators, parents have the wonderful opportunity to attend teachings by our resident teacher Geshe Tsultrim in the Gompa. Geshe-la’s teachings start at 10:30am. Dharma Kids facilitators are all holders of working with children blue cards.

We ask that you register online to ensure adequate resources are provided for each session. The suggested donation of $5.00 per child covers all materials used in the Dharma Kids program.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS:

Motivated to support the spiritual growth of children through fun, age-appropriate activities rooted in mindfulness and compassion.

Facilitated by dedicated volunteers with experience working with children, each session creates a safe and welcoming space for young minds to explore Buddhist teachings, connect with peers, and grow in awareness and kindness.

Whether your child is new to the Dharma or already on the path, all are welcome!

Please use the registration below – we like to have a good idea of numbers so that the coordinator can prepare properly.

A contribution of $5.00 to cover materials is greatly appreciated

Parents should accompany children.
