How to Meditate: Weekend Course with Ven. Carla Tsultrim

  • Chenrezig Institute 33 Johnsons Road Eudlo, QLD, 4554 Australia (map)

About Event:

This Buddhist Meditation Course is designed for beginners. It is presented within the context of the Tibetan Mahayana Buddhist tradition.

It provides an overview of the importance of meditation and introduces basic meditation techniques such as watching the breath, simple visualization with mantra recitation, and analytical meditation of some of the most important aspects of buddhist thought and practice, such as impermanence, loving kindness and developing patience.  It includes an explanation of what kinds of skills we develop in meditation and how these are useful in our daily lives particularly in developing insight and understanding of our thought and behaviour patterns which in turn create our happiness or our suffering.  We will learn how to set up a regular meditation practice and why this is so beneficial and practiced so widely and in so many different forms.  We will learn why silence and letting go of distraction is a fundamental part of learning to meditate.

Although some basic understanding of Buddhism is helpful it is not necessary.

About our Teacher:

Ven Tsultrim was ordained in 2009 at Chenrezig Institute in Australia. She has spent much of the last several years in India and Nepal doing retreats, listening to different teachers from the Tibetan Buddhist lineages, and visiting many pilgrimage sites. She is currently working at Karuna Hospice Service as a counsellor and the Spiritual Program Coordinator. She has worked for many years in suicide prevention and intervention.

She has a very strong conviction that most of us can find contentment in our lives irrespective of our external circumstances through understanding and training our minds, particularly through using mindfulness. She has a Bachelor of Counselling, a Bachelor of Social Science (Social Policy), and Master of International Studies (Peace and Conflict Resolution).

All are welcome to attend for the whole long weekend, one day or a session or two.
