Life, Death, and the Wisdom of Impermanence - Weekend Retreat with Geshe Tsultrim

  • Gompa - Chenrezig Institute 33 Johnsons Road Eudlo, QLD, 4554 Australia (map)

About Event:

“From the moment we were born we’ve been destined for death.” — Lama Yeshe

This weekend retreat on death and impermanence, grounded in the Middle Lamrim, offers a rare opportunity to gently turn the mind toward what truly matters.

Drawing on these profound teachings, we will reflect on the certainty of death, the uncertainty of its timing, and the deeper meaning this brings to our lives. Rather than being something to fear, contemplating death and impermanence can open the heart, clarify our priorities, and inspire a more meaningful and compassionate way of living.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche said: “A complete education about death is the most important education we can have. What death is, how we die, what minds we need at death, and what happens after death – only by knowing about death and rebirth can we actually fully understand what life is and so learn how to live fully.”

Through teachings, guided meditations and quiet reflection, this retreat supports us to develop a more peaceful relationship with change, loss, and the transient nature of our experience. In doing so, we begin to cultivate wisdom, courage, and a deeper appreciation for each moment.

This weekend is suitable for both new and experienced students, offering a supportive space to explore these essential teachings in a gentle and practical way.

About our Teacher:

Geshe Phuntsok Tsultrim is immensely popular for the warm and approachable way in which he presents the Dharma and inspires our community. He became a monk in Tibet and did extensive study at Sera Je Monastery in India, where he was awarded his Geshe degree (the equivalent of a doctorate in Buddhist studies) in 2005. He began teaching at Chenrezig Institute in 2014 after being chosen for our community by Lama Zopa Rinpoche. He teaches in Tibetan with the help of an interpreter.

Geshe Tsultrim has a warm hearted, caring and practical approach to teaching Dharma. He has been the resident Geshe at Chenrezig Institute since 2014. Since then he has taught Dharma both in the Gompa and by the example he sets outside of the Gompa.
