About Event:
Mantra rolling is a traditional Buddhist practice carried out as part of the sacred process of filling statues and stupas, transforming them into living supports for awakening. As taught by Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche, written mantras embody enlightened mind and carry profound blessings. When placed inside a statue, they help establish it as a field of merit — an object that inspires virtue, devotion, and positive transformation for all who encounter it. The act of preparing these mantras is itself a form of meditation, where intention, care, and mindfulness are as important as the physical task.
The process unfolds slowly and attentively: mantras are first carefully copied onto saffron-yellow paper, then individually cut out, rolled tightly around sticks of incense, and finally bundled together in saffron-coloured cloth. Each repetitive movement invites steadiness of mind, patience, and acceptance, encouraging the practitioner to remain present with each moment as it arises. In this way, mantra rolling becomes a quiet devotional activity — a practice of service and contemplation — cultivating humility, perseverance, and a gentle connection to the continuity of lineage and tradition.
