About Event:
Over five very special days, the Sera Jey Geshes will be creating a White Tara Sand Mandala—one of the most exquisite and meaningful forms of Tibetan Buddhist sacred art.
This ancient tradition is far more than an artwork. It is a spiritual practice that embodies deep wisdom and compassion.
Each grain of coloured sand is placed with precision and prayer, slowly revealing intricate geometric patterns and the enlightened presence of White Tara, the embodiment of long life, healing, and compassionate protection.
The mandala is constructed during a ritual process that begins with consecration of the space, including traditional chanting that purify and bless the area. Over several days, the Geshes will patiently build the mandala, transforming the Tara Room into a sacred space filled with mantra, meditation, and devotion.
You are warmly invited to come and visit the mandala throughout the five days—observe the Geshes at work, experience the peaceful atmosphere, and witness this rare expression of Tibetan Buddhist culture as it unfolds moment by moment.
When complete, the mandala is traditionally ritually dissolved, symbolising the profound Buddhist teaching on impermanence. The blessed sand is then returned to the elements, carrying prayers, blessings, and compassionate intentions for all beings.
🌟 Donations Welcome
If you feel inspired, you are warmly encouraged to make a donation. Your offering not only supports this magnificent sacred art, but also contributes to the Sera Jey Monastery kitchen building fund for about 3500 monks.
Your generosity directly supports the preservation of this precious living tradition.
The completed White Tara mandala will then be carried to the Gompa, so its blessings may continue to radiate throughout the White Tara Retreat from the 28th of November till 1st December.
